Hello from France by Barry George

Just a few lines to let the lads know how i am getting on .
Still enjoying being over here in france think the winter has been a bit better than yours though still cold.
My new found ablility and skill in sking  appears to have helped the leg muscles start the year in better form. My main cycling during the winter was with the local mountain bike club but have at last found a sportive club to get out with though as usual sees me hanging of the back.
The mountain bike club has done a group entry into the Etape de tour so fingers crossed i may get a lower number in the etape ( it does make a differance ) . It is great that the etape is on the door step this year so I can train on the route.
Just starting to loose a little weight at last , Recording the mileage and i have just managed  to clock up 1000 km since the start of february.
I have a look at the Warrington rc site occasionally and it is great to see that the club still seems to be strong, i was very sorry to hear about Johnny Helms and John Atkinson , on a happier note all the best to Darrell webster and his new addition..  Congralulations to Trevor on the years first win  I am sure the other members will soon be on his tail.
As I have said in the past if any of the club fancy a trip to the pyrenees i would be delighted to put them up,  we have a few spare beds .
Wendy and i are back over for a family wedding in june so hope to  catch up then .

regards Barry and Wendy

Eddie Soens Road Race

Gordon Leicester in action in the Eddie Soens

Gordon rode a solid race gaining a lap early in the race along with the juniors and 4th cat riders. They went hell for leather from the off taking the elites and 1st cats by surprise. Then it was just a matter of hanging in there to the finish. Gordon said he had nothing left in the tank at the end but managed a creditable 27th place.

Racing Season Gets Underway

This Saturday sees the start of the 2010 racing season for Warrington road club riders. Gordon Leicester tries his luck in the 49th edition of the Eddie Soens road race on the Aintree Racecourse circuit. The event is run over 30 laps of the Club Circuit covering 81km (thats 49.2 mls in old money}. The event has attracted many of the UK's top teams and riders including Rob Hayles, Ed Clancy, Steven Burke, 4 times winner Tony Gibb and Ben Swift (Team Sky).

On the time trialing front Saturday also sees new junior club member 16 year old Thomas Bracegirdle riding in the M&DTTA 10ml time trial on the J2/3 course. Also making his seaon debut on the same course is Dave Fox. Good luck to all 3 riders.
